So, you’ve just sold your house, or you’ve decided to take a new job interstate and you have given notice at your rental property. It is likely that you’re probably in this amazing high of excitement and anticipation… until you realised all the organisation, paper work and phone calls that you are now going to have to make, and you don’t know where to start. Which is how you’ve come to discover this article. Well, this is where we come in. Which is why we have created this list for you, of all of the things you will need to tie up.
Now all you need to do is go through this list (and we have provided the links for you to complete these applications online) and tick them off, so when you get to the other end you can move straight in.
- Contact your energy provider
Regardless of who your energy provider is (AGL, Energy Australia, Origin Energy, etc.) you will need to notify them of your changed address

When you move, make sure your mail moves with you by contacting the Australian Post Office and notifying them of the change.

Make sure you contact your provider (Telstra, Optus, etc.) to ensure you stay connected when you move.

Make sure you stay up to date with the latest sports and TV by making sure you’re Foxtel is connected at the other end. Call Foxtel to notify them of the move where they can advise whether they will need to send out a technician to install at your new premises.

If you've moved homes or changed your postal address, you must let Roads and Maritime Services know your new details within 14 days. Simply notify them of the changes online and they’ll post your changed address labels within 7 days. The labels can be stuck on the back of your licence card/Photo card and any registration certificates. When you move, you must update your address on the electoral roll, otherwise your name will be removed and you will be unable to vote (which can result in you being fined). You are eligible to enrol for your new address after you have lived at the new premises for at least one month. For businesses: If moving means that your business address will also change, it is a legal requirement to tell the Registrar of the Australian Business Register (ABR) within 28 days of any changes.
