Commercial Removals

Our network of professional furniture removalists in Melbourne allows us to quote on "bulky" freight and logistics moves where only the best removalists will do. This service is ideal for items that are bigger than can be managed by a courier, but are also unable to be loaded on to shipping palletes. For example, we've worked with a range of furniture companies to ensure that their products are delivered safely to their customers, or between their depots.

We also provide packing supplies, packing and unpacking services, removals insurance and more!

What every Melbourne removalist wants you to know before you move

Local moves are priced based on the time it takes to move your designated items. Very few removalists will give you a fixed price for your move, and it usually works out better to be charged based on time anyway because it gives you the flexibility to use as much or as little time as you want.

The level of access to your property will be a major determining factor in how long your move will take. Obstacles like many flights of stairs, steep driveways, no parking out the front of your residence, elevators, and so on can dramatically slow down the time taken to load an unload the truck. Other factors like having multiple pot plants (that often need to be carried one at a time) can also slow down loading and unloading.

If you're looking for ways to save money, you can always:

  1. Disassemble all of your furniture (like beds) yourself
  2. Move all of your boxes in to the garage on your ground floor to make them quicker to load
  3. Help the removalists load the truck on the day
  4. Ensure there is easy-access parking to your property
  5. Move pot plants and other difficult items yourself
  6. You don't need to book to move everything! You can just book the number of hours you want, and move the rest yourself

As mentioned above, the cost for your local move will depend on how long your move takes. Some dishonest moving companies quote very cheap hourly or half-hourly rates to get your job, and then work slowly on the day or surprise you with additional charges in order to make more money.

Unless they are running a limited special offer, most honest removal companies need to charge at least $45 per half hour or more in order to pay their staff (two people usually come to load and unload the truck for you), pay their insurances, and make sure their trucks are serviced regularly.

Reading reviews is a great way to determine if a removalist is the right one for you. Platforms like Google, Product Review or Muval are great for this because they have built-in mechanisms to ensure reviews are from genuine people that have actually interacted with that business.

However, we advise to be cautions of moving companies with perfect 5 star ratings on these platforms. Given the nature of furniture removal work, something, at some point, is bound to go wrong. Maybe the truck breaks down and is late for a job. Maybe someone accidentally trips and some items in a box are damaged. Whatever it is, accidents unfortunately do happen and these sorts of occassions rarely attract a 5 star rating.

Instead of looking for all 5-star reviews, take a look at a companies worst reviews and pay special attention to how they responded to the issue. Were they sympathetic? Did they respond promptly? Did they offer a resolution? Were they contactable for the customer to voice their concerns? These are the sorts of things that separate the best removalists from those who don't deliver a high level of service.

Packing and unpacking boxes for your house is not usually included by default when you book a removalist. This is a service that needs to be booked separately (you can do this through Muval) or done yourself, and is best arranged for a day or two before your removalist is scheduled to do your uplift.

In our experience, people always dramatically under estimate the time it takes to pack their house, and it's usually one of the most burdensome tasks of moving! If you're packing yourself, make sure you start early and do a couple of boxes a day. Otherwise, save yourself the hassle and book packing services through Muval. Your future self will thank you.

No one expects that you keep the original box that your TV came in when you bought it. Most removalists can provide special TV moving cardboard boxes that can help to keep your TV safe and secure while being transported (make sure you enquire about this before your move day. Otherwise, you can protect your television by wrapping it in blankets and then wrapping that tightly in cling film. Finally, as a peace of mind measure, we recommend purchasing one of our affordable moving insurance policies to protect your most valuable possessions like your TV in case of an accident.

The best way to ensure a successful move day is to be prepared. One way to do this is to notify your removalist about any very heavy or awkward-to-move items before move day. It can never hurt to double-check with them that they understand that you have these items, even if you have also submitted an inventory list. These sorts of items include:

  • Grand / Baby grand piano
  • Pizza oven
  • Concrete furniture
  • Pool / snooker tables (particularly slate)
  • Many pot plants / large pot plants

Frequently asked questions

If you need to change the delivery or pick up date, please advise the removalist as early as possible. They can sometimes accommodate changes and reschedule but this has a few variables.

Muval is a booking platform. We find reliable moving companies at a competitive rate. We help companies fill their space with customers that are happy to fit in with the truck schedule. It is called a shared load option.

The packing service is not included in our standard pricing. Please check with our support team to get a quotation.

Generally, it is around four porta-robes or 6 standard cartons for a wardrobe.

The final payment must be paid five days before the nominated pickup date.

It is preferred if you or your representative to be present at the pickup and drop off.

Each company has differing policies about notification before the pickup and delivery. Some companies can provide a time window on booking, others provide this the day before, while others will provide notice within an hour of their arrival.

All furniture items will be wrapped in heavy removalist quilted padding to best protect your furniture; Some removalists will also use shrink wrap as well.

If your booking is a premium service, the company will be able to provide exact timing. If your booking is a shared option, then your schedule will be a window between two to seven hours on the move day.
