Local moves are billed per half hour: you pay an hourly rate for the crew and truck, with the first two hours collected up-front as a deposit and the remainder settled once the job is done.

Time-on-the-job figures come from actual completed moves, recorded by the crew after the job is finished. Typical total is the median actual cost of completed moves — the hourly rate multiplied by the hours the job really took, not just the two-hour deposit.

Time on the job is the median actual on-the-job time for completed moves, door to door, recorded after the job is finished.

Typical size is the average cubic-metre volume recorded for moves on this page.

2-hour deposit is the typical up-front cost to secure a crew, based on the median hourly rate. Muval collects the first two hours as a deposit when you book.

Book ahead is the median number of days between confirming a removalist and moving day.

Busiest day is the day of the week most local moves in this area are booked for.

Typical saving is calculated from completed bookings where the customer received two or more competing quotes and booked below their average quote. We calculate the percentage difference for each eligible booking, remove extreme outliers, then average the result.

The first thing to do once you’ve moved into your new home is to check the house. Check out Chapter 4 of our moving house guide for a detailed outline of what to do after you move.

Packing and unpacking boxes for your house is not usually included by default when you book a removalist. This is a service that needs to be booked separately (you can do this through Muval) or done yourself, and is best arranged for a day or two before your removalist is scheduled to do your uplift.

In our experience, people always dramatically under estimate the time it takes to pack their house, and it's usually one of the most burdensome tasks of moving! If you're packing yourself, make sure you start early and do a couple of boxes a day. Otherwise, save yourself the hassle and book packing services through Muval. Your future self will thank you.

Yes, absolutely. Please mention this at the time of booking, as it may make a difference to the provider we match you with.

Some companies will have storage at the destination and some at the pickup. Some even include complimentary storage!

If you need to change the delivery or pick up date, please advise the removalist as early as possible. They can sometimes accommodate changes and reschedule but this has a few variables.

We encourage bookings ASAP, and this will hold the price, reserve the space, and give you peace of mind. This can also mean you avoid any future price rise.

If you change your list of items or space required to an increased amount, the removalist will adjust the price accordingly. It is advisable to inform Muval as soon as you know that your moving volume has increased. This way, we can plan to avoid any items being left behind on the move day. Please contact Muval about two days before your move once you have finished packing; this way, we can give the correct information to the removalist company before the day.
